Magical adventures, magical mindset, the roots.
(Mom series) A Timeline of a Magical Journey
Hello magical friends and travelers,
My last article I mentioned its time to pivot to the roots of my story, instead of the recent writing about the fruits. Which leads me back to understanding it was my mother’s influence that has shaped my destiny.
I’d love to bring in your participation as I write about this mom series over the next few weeks. Your votes matter to me to help me decide what part of the roots I should add to my story.
My magical mindset was birthed from a family of readers.
My father read the newspapers, my mother read books.
During the 1960's and into 70's the place she frequented the most with my three brothers and I was the Library.
As we grew into teens, we built up a library in our home and we would all exchange books with each other.
The most prevalent genres in our home were science fiction, science fantasy, medieval myths, and medieval fantasy.
My brothers leaned more into the science fiction, I loved low and high fantasy.
Off the top of my head, Authors we enjoyed included: J. R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Marion Bradley Zimmer, Piers Anthony, Terry Brooks, Charles De Lint.
I still remember reading Lord of the Rings series when I was sixteen because I was going through a huge challenge in my life and those books were a great escape. I also recall the impatience to wait for my two older brothers to finish each book before it was my turn, and how proud I felt completing them because the first book was so hard to get into.
Romancing the Magic
What I loved the most was the magical adventures and the companions that the protagonist would meet that would assist them in fighting the dark forces.
I didn’t just observe the fantasies, I absorbed them, and my life’s outline became the adventure of the Light against the Dark. Which to me is always the same plot in the fantasy books. I didn’t have words back then to know I was reading the archetype of the Hero’s Journey, or the Fool in Tarot and the magical adventures that unfolded.
The theme that is timeless, is the strength of the human spirit to overcome, especially in a dark moments on my path of being suicidal and kind-hearted strangers who showed up to help me love life again.
I think I’ve played the Fool more than the Hero.
My life’s journey has emulated a low fantasy book.
After the death of my mother I had a collection of her yoga books, with a move out West I found an ancient breathing practice in one of those books. I began teaching it as a gift to humanity, I’ve dealt with the betray of adversaries, and met magical companions along the way to keep the flame of magic alive to shine on the side of Light. Spirit guides and Ancestors showed up along with Fairies, (unicorns and dragons in dreamtime), and finally swans to grace my life and be teachers.
